“Islanders are together! They do not know differences between languages, religions, sect, or races. They are as if in the same boat; they go together to fishing, fires, weddings, or to drink… If the mainland does not intervene, they will live for centuries here, on the islands…”
Beraberdir adalılar! Dil, din, mezhep, ırk bilmezler. Aynı teknede gibidir onlar, beraber giderler balığa, yangına, düğüne, içmeye… Anakara karışmazsa yüzyıllarca daha yaşarlar burada, ada’da…”
Through this exhibition Sami Solmaz, journalist and photographer, is sharing with the art loving community his passion for the inhabitants of Princes’ Islands who live in a place thriving with history.
“ Serbest gazeteci ve fotoğrafçı Sami Solmaz’ın Beyoğlu’nda İstanbul Yunan Konsolosluğu’na ait Sismanoglio Megaro binasında gerçekleştireceği sergisinde tarihten izler barındıran ada topraklarında yaşayan insanlara dair çektiği kareleri sanatseverlerle paylaşıyor.
Sali Solmaz is capturing with his lens moments of the everyday peaceful life of island people, leaving aside the differences on language, religion or ethnic background characteristic to the Princes’ Islands.

The author Aris Tsokonas describes Sami Solmaz’s pictures as « life stories of people rooted in the soil of their homeland, just like purple lavender flowers, marked the Islands».
. Serginin kitabından diğer bir yazar Ari Çokona, sergideki fotoğrafları “asaletin rengine bürünmüş erguvani karabaşlar gibi topraklarına tutkuyla bağlı insanların hikayeleri” olarak tanımlıyor.
The opening of the exhibition will take place at Sismanoglio Megaro of the Consulate General of Greece in Istanbul on the 25th of January at 19:00 in collaboration with Princes’ Islands Museum.
Yunanistan İstanbul Başkonsolosluğu – Adalar Müzesi işbirliğiyle düzenlenen serginin açılışı, 25 Ocak saat 19:00’da Sismanoglio Megaro binasında yapılacak.
Sami Solmaz Hakkında
He was born in 1963 in Diyarbakir and started photography in 1984. For a short period of time he worked as a freelance journalist and advertisement photographer.
1963 yılında Diyarbakır’da doğan sanatçı, 1984 yılında fotoğrafa başladı. Bir dönem freelance gazetecilik ve tanıtım fotoğrafçılığı ile uğraştı.
From 1993 onwards he conducted research on the Middle East. In 2004 he published his book and documentary titled "Those who do not worship the fire" about Zoroastrianism, while in 2008 he published the book and documentary titled "Leaving aside."
1993 yılından itibaren Ortadoğu ile ilgili çeşitli çalışmalar yaptı. 2004 yılında Zerdüşt dini ile ilgili kitabı ve belgeseli “Ateşe Tapmayanlar” yayınlandı. Ardından 2008 yılında ise Sarf-ı Nazar adlı kitabı ve belgeseli yayınlandı.
